 RACE CANCELLED!

We regret to announce the cancelation of the Assateague Assault Sprint Triathlon / Duathlon.  Because of the lack of participation we cannot hold the event for this year.  Full refunds will be granted to those who have registered.  We are still working with the State Park and have plans to continue this event in 2014.  Once an acceptable date has been established we will announce the opening for registration.  We apologize for the unfortunate cancelation but feel it necessary to make the decision now allowing time for those who have registered to make any adjustments to their current travel plans and/or race schedules.

+ DUATHLON   WELCOME to the fourth year for the Assateague Assault sprint distance triathlon. To help with park rules and guidelines we have moved the event to September 29, 2013. We are also adding a Duathlon to this years event. Help support the Greater Ocean City Chapter of the United States Lifesaving Association along with the FOASP (Friends of Assateague State Park) by showing your family and friends what it feels like to be a “TRIATHLETE” or “DUATHLETE”. TRIATHLON This year’s course will now remain the same. The course consists of a ½ mile ocean water swim, bike leg of 12.5 miles and a 3.1 mile run. The swim portion of the race will be a straight point to point, starting at either the north or south end of Assateague Beach pending on which way the current is running, and heading down current back to the State Park area. From the beach athletes will head to transition which will be set up in the overflow parking lot of the State Park facilities. From here they will mount bikes and head straight out across Verrazono Bridge, down Rt. 611 to a designated turn around area and back to transition to dismount and start the last leg of the race. The run leg will stay on Assateague Island for 3.1 miles of fast, flat running! Then on to the Finish chute back at the transition area. DUATHLON Then new Assateague Assault Duathlon will be challenging. The course consists of a 1 mile first leg run starting at the same location as the swim start on the beach. You will run the 1/2 mile back to transition area on the beach, by the transition area, down campground road and back to transition for your bike leg. Bike and second run legs are same as triathlon, 12.5 miles of biking and a 3.1 mile run. Starting point will be at either the north or south end of Assateague Beach pending on which way the current is running for the triathlon. After the first leg athletes will head to transition which will be set up in the overflow parking lot of the State Park facilities. From here they will mount bikes and head straight out across Verrazono Bridge, down Rt. 611 to a designated turn around area and back to transition to dismount and start the last leg of the race. The run leg will stay on Assateague Island for 3.1 miles of fast, flat running! Then on to the Finish chute back at the transition area.An awesome race with great terrain, plenty of scenery and tons of excitement. Medical assistance will be available at the transition area.
